Preview Day for P.A. Studies Set for Traverse City

Grand Valley State University will host a preview day for its Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program at the University Center Friday, January 18.

The event will run from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the center at 2200 Dendrinos Drive, Traverse City. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP online at /traverse.

Nicholus Kopacki, assistant program director of PAS at the Traverse City Center, said participants will learn the role of a physician assistant, get an explanation of the application process and meet current students and faculty advisors.

“I hope that participants learn about unique aspects of the Traverse City program,” Kopacki said. “We started this program with grant support. Our goal was to educate students in our rural northern Michigan community and graduate physician assistants to serve the healthcare needs of underserved communities.”

That goal is being realized. Sixty percent of graduates from the Traverse City program practice in northern Michigan. Kopacki also added that Grand Valley’s Allied Health Science (AHS) bachelor’s degree program, also offered through the Traverse City Center, serves as a good stepping stone to the PAS program.

“The AHS degree in Traverse City provides students with a well-rounded, science-oriented bachelor’s degree that meets the prerequisites for the PAS program without having to travel long distances or take courses online,” he said.
